About Kanatal
Kanatal is a tiny hamlet on the Chamba–Mussoorie road that has quietly become one of Garhwal's favourite adventure-camping destinations. Set high at around 2,590 metres among apple orchards and forests of oak and deodar, it takes its name from a lake that once existed here and has long since dried up — but what remains is cool, clean mountain air and wide-open views toward the snow line.
Its appeal lies less in monuments than in mood. Clusters of tented camps and boutique resorts dot the slopes, built around bonfires, barbecues, rappelling, ziplining and rope courses, drawing groups and families looking to unplug under exceptionally clear, star-filled night skies.
Kanatal also sits within easy reach of the region's bigger draws — the hilltop temple of Surkanda Devi, the eco-parks of Dhanaulti, and the water sports of Tehri Lake — which lets visitors pair the village's laid-back camp culture with a fuller exploration of the Tehri Garhwal countryside.
